What's New?

Michael Phelps is big news today. Everyone knows who he is. We see him as disciplined, focused and a winner. We may have been surprised to hear his educator-school principal mother say he is also ADHD, and bullied as a child. We can learn volumes from this. This can be an encouragement for teachers, parents and students alike. ADD/ADHD is a gift if you learn to harness it and see what God has in store for you to do. Many children are marching to the beat of a different drum. Dr. Warren and I did this video series to encourage, empower and equip people who work with these children. The book and video series are now being offered at a savings through September in our store.

Teaching Tip

Brain research supports that enriched environments are one of the keys to optimum learning. In preparation for the new school year starting, parents can set up enriched learning homework environments to help their students establish healthy homework habits. The goal is to develop successful study strategies in order to build learners for life. Teachers can set up their classrooms to maximize learning through enriched classroom environments. Jody’s books are all full of ideas on these topics. See the following Parenting articles on the website: Learners for Life and Healthy Homework Habits. (In September, there will be a series on Enriching the Environment.)

New books

As we embrace the upcoming school year, we want to establish successful study strategies. This month I have been working with teachers in a number of schools to develop their individual learning portfolios in order to understand how they learn. We also learned how to develop learning styles portfolios for the students. This begins the school year with teachers and students understanding each other’s learning language. 3 of the 7 “tests” used in developing these portfolios are in the newly updated “YOUTH DISC, LEARNING STYLE and LOVE LANGUAGE SURVEY offered in our store.

Upcoming Events

August welcomes the season for teacher training and parent education. I love doing In-Service training for schools and parent classes to partner with them in the profoundly important task of training children. As I am writing this book on "Brain Research and How the Mind of the Child Develops", I am even more committed to wanting to encourage, equip and empower teachers and parents in their journey. If you are interested in training for your school, church, home-school group, MOPS or women’s ministry, you may reach me at jody.capehart@verizon.net.

From The Heart of Jody Capehart

Each week I am going to write to you from my heart. It may be reflections on what is going on that particular week as a Christian wife, mom, grandma, educator, author and speaker. Often it will be the story of my JOURNEY. I often get asked this question: "How did you start so many schools?" I always answer, "God did it, I just happened to be there." I truly believe that, but of course, there is a bit more to the story. This may be time to tell some of the details. My weekly articles will include many of these details from over the past 4 decades of creating schools. In my bio, I only mention the main ones but there are more. This past week one of my former students contacted me about one of the other schools I started over 35 years ago and it got me to reflecting. It may be time to tell the stories of the “little red schoolhouses” and how they grew, all to the glory of God. Be watching for the stories about the:

  • joy in the journey
  • trials and tribulations
  • biblical principles
  • lessons learned
  • practical applications
